Connection issues (1) - FirewallsThe members' site can ask you for a username and password for every page, part-page and graphic which you download. To avoid this happening, you should ask the system administrator for your organisation's own network to add the site http://members.dreamusers.org to the safe list on any necessary firewalls or proxy servers.
Connection issues (2) - IE6 and passwordsWhen you log on to the members' site using Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 6 and possibly version 5 too) you are asked to enter a username and password. You have the option to 'Remember password' which is often very useful, but even if you don't take this option the credentials will remain valid all the time you have the current browser session open. This means that you can do some work on the members' site then go shopping at eBay and come back to the User Group site and go straight into the members' area without entering your username and password again. You should consider whether this has any implications within your organisation and whether you should always close Internet Explorer after visiting the members' site.
Connection issues (3) - Password prompt on start-upIf you are prompted for a password every time you start your PC, it is entirely possible that the site has been added to 'My Network Places' on your PC. If you delete this entry the prompt for a password will stop appearing.
Browser Issues (1) - Prompt to download Word docsWhen you open one of the shared Word documents, you may be asked whether you want to open the file or save it to disc (as you would expect with, for example, a ZIP file). To stop this happening, and simply open the Word document within your browser, carry out the following change:
If this setting changes itself back, you'll need to ask your system administrator to change the group policy on this issue.
Members' site access - Types of userA user set as a 'Reader' has read-only access to the
members' site. Each member organisation can have up to four named website users in addition to their primary contact. You can request that any or all of these four are set as 'Reader' users if you wish, though we would not encourage this as the whole purpose of the site is to provide forums for discussion. Certain User Group council members may be set as 'Web Designer' members, and at some stage the 'Administrator' membership role may be expanded to include one or more council members. |
